Glass & Finish Options
Even though you’re buying a thinner framed or semi-frameless shower door that’s no reason to sacrifice your privacy, sense of style or put up with a door which is difficult to clean. Check out the finish, privacy glass and glass surface protection systems to purchase your perfect shower door.
Glass Surface Protection
If your old shower door is cloudy or has water spots inside the glass you can’t get out no matter how hard you try, you know the negative impacts of hard water on glass shower doors.
Hard water causes spots. Your door looks terrible.
However, the good news is you don’t have to be a slave to your squeegee and constantly cleaning your shower doors. Simplify your life with factory applied AquaGlide glass surface protection. You’ll see water beading off your shower glass like using wax on your car or RainX on your windshield.
This small investment saves hours of cleaning and keeps shower glass doors brighter and clearer.
Frequently Asked Questions About Framed and Semi-Frameless Shower Doors
Well – the short answer is both doors make sense, depending on your goals.
If you want a lower cost shower door which seals best around the door and is lighter to install (because the glass is generally thinner), the framed shower door will be best.
On the other hand, if you want more light in the shower (because there’s less framing), a better view of your wall panels or tile and a glass system which is simpler to clean – the semi-frameless glass shower door is best.
To learn the specific factors to decide which door is best for you read our blog post: “How to Compare Sliding vs. Pivoting Glass Shower Doors.”
A framed shower door provides the tightest seal at the sides between your glass framing and your shower surround wall panels or tile. It’s for this reason, a framed shower door is the preferred choice for a sauna.
The majority of glass shower door sold are made with clear glass. See through glass is most popular because it costs less than obscure glass, it’s best to see stylish shower wall panels or custom tile patterns and it can make the shower feel bigger. The advantages of obscure glass are you’ll have more privacy and it’s harder to see spotting on the glass.
Just like you’ll apply RainX to your car for the water to bead off, it’s a smart investment to use a factory applied glass surface protection (called AquaGlide XP) to the glass to provide a shield against dirt build up and help water will bead off the glass. In addition, to keep the glass in pristine condition, a Cleret squeegee is a smart tool to use.
It’s recommended to wait 24 hours after the shower door is installed (and the silicone sealant has had time to cure) before using the shower.
